How to activate TFA so that your WhatsApp account is safe

Two Factor Authentication (TFA) is a layered security system designed to ensure that only the account owner can access the account.

This feature is in all online services, to avoid hijacking accounts, including one on WhatsApp. Here are the steps to activate TFA to secure WhatsApp.

1. Tap three points on the top right of the WhatsApp main page

2. Select Settings

3. Tap Account / Account

4. Select Two Step Verification

5. Enable

6. Enter the PIN

7. TFA has been activated and protects your account.

Cyber security researcher Alfons Tanujaya from Vaksincom said, by activating TFA, even if hackers successfully stolen our credentials, the account would remain safe.

"If you activate TFA, then to install WhatsApp to a new cellphone will ask for a PIN that is only known by the cellphone owner. So the technique of stealing PIN is only valid if the TFA is not activated," he explained.

Previously a number of security researchers reported the potential for theft of WhatsApp passwords using voice mail. This gap is actually found on voice mail operators if the telephone number voice mail access number is generic.

In Indonesia, according to Alfons, this threat is relatively low. Compared to other countries, voice mail operators use generic numbers that are easy to guess (0000 or 1234) so that they can endanger WhatsApp users who do not activate TFA.

However, the potential for theft of this WhatsApp password or PIN should be a concern. To be safe from this hacking mode, Alfons suggested to activate TFA.

Not only for WhatsApp, TFA is like the main fence to protect from hacking for all online services.

"Actually, in our opinion, TFA must be activated in all services to ensure the security of hackers," he concluded.
